“Atletico Madrid”, one of the most successful and popular Spanish clubs, was founded on April 26, 1903 by three Basque students studying in Madrid. This club was not conceived from the very beginning as independent was considered something like a branch of Athletics from Bilbao, therefore it did not take part in competitions. But in friendly matches at the local level he proved himself to be a very efficient team. And only on February 20, 1907, having registered with the Spanish Football Federation under the name "Athletic Club de Madrid", the club became completely independent and received the right to speak in official tournaments.
From the very beginning, the colors of the club repeated the colors of Athletics from Bilbao - a uniform in blue and white. But in 1911, red-and-white, vertical-striped t-shirts were tested. This combination of colors was then used in droves in Spanish factories for the production of mattresses.
